Correlation vs. Causation

This site offers plenty of correlation examples. Thinking about possible causations can be time consuming. (HT: Freakonomics)

This article is very interesting to understand what is correlation and causation. Correlation is the the relationship of two or more actions. However causation the relation of cause to effect of one action to another. This is a helpful article to understand the difference between the two concepts. A common misconception of the two ideas but they are different.

  2. This article does the compares the percentage of people who are involved in relation to a given population. Some of the correlations I wish were more specific. The examples with the men "83 percent of men prefer Coke over Pepsi, compared with 65 percent of people in general." I wish the poll could have been out of men instead of people in general.

What I did is that I eliminated all of the military spending, and it already solved one third of the debt problems.
The greatest problem is not if American can stand on its feet to produce more and make more money. The problem is how politicians really be nice to the people for one time and not allow lobbyist to get laws passed.
In many countries, when the government is corrupted, people suffers. I am not saying the U.S. government is corrupted, but if they listen to the bottom level of the country for once and provide jobs for American citizens instead of making nuclear weapons to kill more people in other countries, I think everything would look a little better.

Sorry, posted the previous comment at the wrong page.

But here is the Correlation and Causation comment:

Correlation and causation is a tough one to identify. Causation gets to the root of the problem while correlation doesn't.

An interesting piece of information just came across me about two weeks ago that researchers, through the years, treat their hypothesis of thesis like their children, and therefore they try to find every piece of possible information to prove their theory correct. This is very dangerous in research, because if everyone just use correlation to suggest their point is right, then there wouldn't be actually a reason to go into research.

So one big improvement in today's academic world is that researchers are encouraged to disproof their hypothesis. That way research can become more fair and credible.

I found this site extremely interesting. Coorelation and Causation can be quite a tricky topic in general. Just because things seem to connect doesnt mean that "one thing" causes the "next thing" to happen. Based on the surveys I see that the people who participated is extremely small (around 200 people). It also doesnt not appear that these polls were conducted in any sort of scientific manner. Simply Facebook users who felt inclined to do this poll. For that reason, I find this site interesting and a great way to pass the time. However, I will not take what I read as definite fact or reality.
